My advice would be to forget about using the google earth feature or any other preloaded elevation data, you will spare yourself a big headache while you learn how to use the track laying tools. Hehe i can see where the OP is coming from, the editor is a bit mental to use. And believe me, I spent a long time searching for help. See, as I said, I didn't know if there were fixes since I couldn't find many tutorials. Either you have some very serious 'faults' or 'bugs' that prevent you from using it correctly - or you simply have not got used to it yet.

You can have a grid by selecting the 'Grid' or 'Tile Boundaries' icons. You can indeed use all of the assets of all of the routes, simply by selecting the 'Object Set Filter' (Little blue cube with orange triangle on one side - middle left of the panel) then slecting as much or as little as you want from the drop down lists in the panel that opens up on the right side of the screen. You can curve them as much or as little as you like. Tracks and roads are equally as easy, and they can be laid in straight lines simply by de-selecting the 'Snap to Track' icon - when the track (or road) is straight, it will be outlined in a yellow box. If it's facing the wrong way, all you have to do is click on it to select it, then use the gizmo to align it correctly. It is very easy to place static objects - you select them from a list, point to where you want to place them and click the left mouse button. I am wondering if you are actually talking about Train Simulator here. I hope you enjoy the game, because it's far more enjoyable and logical than its level editor. If you hate me for saying this, make sure to let me know. I'd just like to get this rant out there and see if anyone else has the same issues. There's probably a few things I've missed, and fixes for some of the stuff I have covered. There's a grid by default, and a toggleable secondary one for after you've painted the route. That one is incredibly easy to work with you select something, you place it down. And I know of a much better route creation tool: the one provided in Trainz Simulator 12. If there is a way to alleviate any of the problems I've talked about, then I can't find it. Why? Why did they have to make everything so unintuitive and hard to use? I can't even figure out how to exit to the main menu from the route editor. Plus, placing trains down requires you to enter s seperate scenario editor and save the route. Why restrict me to only the assets of one route? I'm not trying to recreate a route, I'm trying to make my own. Now, one of the most blatantly stupid and restrictive decisions that was made while designing the route editor was that you cannot use all of the assets, only those from a specific set. And again, you can't send them wherever you want, only along a specific curve. Tracks are even worse they often fail to fully connect and you get line terminators in between. Also, there's no grid toggle like there should be, so you have no idea where you're going with them. Basically, it's just about impossible to do what you want with them. In fact, there are a couple of predetermined routes you can take with road splines, and it's really strange how it works. First, you can't place them in a straight line. Things such as tracks and roads are damn near impossible to place down properly. It's tough to explain the annoyance behind placing static objects - it's a pain, for the record - but I can certainly gripe about spline creation.
